Over 160 Chinese nationals engaged in offshore gambling in the Philippines were repatriated to China from Manila Tuesday, May 14.
Their repatriation was described as "significant achievement of the law enforcement cooperation between China and the Philippines" by the Chinese Embassy in Manila, which disclosed the news.
"The successful deportation fully demonstrated the strong determination of the two countries to jointly combat fraud, kidnapping and other crimes related to offshore gambling," it said.
Any form of gambling, including online and cross-border, as well as running casinos are prohibited under Chinese law.
The embassy expressed Beijing’s commitment to fight gambling of Chinese nationals.
“The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines will continue to strengthen practical law enforcement cooperation with the Philippine side, and support to the latter in addressing the root cause of crimes related to offshore gambling,” it added.
