Malabon City recognizes 5 outstanding residents

The Malabon City local government honored five outstanding Malabuenos with the Natatanging Epifanio delos Santos Gawad Parangal or EDS Award.

The award recognizes the residents who had shown excellence and dedication in their respective fields and inspired the local government to improve the delivery of services to the people.

Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, together with other city government officials, led the program at the Rizal Park Hotel.

According to the city government, the event recognized 79 individuals, agencies, and organizations for their support to the city government’s programs created to improve the lives of its citizens.

“Ito [EDS Award] ay upang kilalanin ang kahusayan sa pagpapalaganap ng mayamang kasaysayan at kultura ng ating lungsod, pati na rin ang mga kontribusyon sa pag-unlad ng ating lokal na turismo (The EDS Award honors the people who displayed excellence in promoting the rich history and culture of our city as well as their contributions to the development of our local tourism)," said Sandoval who was also cited by the RP-Mission and Development Department as one of the 2023 Outstanding Public Servants and Top National Capital Region (NCR) Mayor.

“Bawat isa sa mga pararangalan na ito ay nagpapakita ng kahusayan sa kani-kanilang larangan. Ang kanilang mga kontribusyon ay hindi lamang nagpapayaman sa ating komunidad kundi naglilingkod din bilang inspirasyon sa iba na sundan ang kanilang yapak (Each of the awardees showed dedication and excellence in their respective fields. Their contributions do not just help enrich their communities but also serve as inspirations for the next generation)," she added.

City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete explained the award aims to recognize the Malabuenos who have shown compassion and love for the country and the city through their various expertise and efforts to Malabuenos, just like Epifanio delos Santos.

Delos Santos is a renowned historian, journalist, writer, politician and civil servant born and raised in Malabon. He is considered as a local hero in Malabon for his dreams and goals for the country’s freedom and independence.

The outstanding individuals were cited for their great contributions in the business sector, culture and arts, education, environment, social welfare, cultural innovation, and contemporary Filipino arts:

Business - Ernesto Chua Co Kiong

Culture and Arts - Anthony Cruz

Education - Reynaldo Torres Jr.

Environment - Noel Agustin

Social Welfare - Ramoncito Arlegui

Special Citation for Cultural Innovation - Gilbert Ramos

Tourism Special Awards - Anthony Villanueva and Ronald Ventura

Other awards include the Malabon Ahon Media Award which recognizes journalists, reporters and media organizations for sharing truthful and unbiased news in Malabon and its programs for the residents; the Best Seat in the City Award that honors food establishements who complied with standards on cleanliness, providing better service to the people; the Business Partners Award for their continuous support in the programs of the local government that help in improving the city’s economy; the City Ordinance Compliance Award; and recognition for excellent young leaders in Malabon.
