DOTr, World Bank iron out glitches in mass transport, maritime connectivity projects in the Philippines
Officials of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) met with representatives of the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) and discussed the progress of the ongoing partnership projects that include efficient mass transport and reliable maritime connectivity.
DOTr Secretary Jaime J. Bautista said the coordination meeting at the IFC office at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) was aimed at coming up with measures to iron out all the remaining obstacles in the implementation of the projects.
“The coordination meeting will help us resolve contentious issues in the four sectors of transportation. We will identify those issues and agree on solutions,” said Bautista.
The World Bank is currently assisting DOTr on such projects as Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Urban Mass Transport Modernization Program and E-mobility in public transport.
Also discussed was the resiliency of seaports and maritime connectivity in the country and inter-island ferry decarbonization pilot project.
The DOTr and IFC are also pursuing the modernization of the Iloilo Airport, Bohol-Panglao International Airport, and Laguindingan Airport as well as the LRT-2 rail line.
“World Bank’s technical and financial assistance to DOTr would lead to better mobility and connectivity,” said Bautista.
