The Our Lady of Fatima of Marikina was pontifically crowned as the 56th Marian image in the country on Sunday, May 12, at the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Saint Paul of the Cross in Marikina City.
Antipolo Bishop Ruperto Santos led the rite of the canonical coronation of the image, which coincided with the celebration of Mother’s Day.
In his homily, Santos said that the coronation of the image was a beautiful gift from the church for the Filipino devotees.
Aside from being the 56th Marian image of the country, a Catholic online community said that it was also the 10th image of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Philippines under the invocation of "Our Lady of the Rosary" to be crowned with the authority of the Holy Father.
It said that it is the Second Coronada of Marikina City and the Sixth for the Diocese of Antipolo.
The Antipolo Cathedral extended its congratulations to the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of St. Paul of the Cross.
“The International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage extends their congratulations to the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of St. Paul of the Cross, for the Holy Father has granted the decree of Canonical Coronation to Our Lady of Fatima of Marikina,” it said.
“The Our Lady is now one of the six canonically crowned Marian images in the Diocese of Antipolo. As another image receives a canonical coronation, may we continue to devote ourselves to the Virgin Mary, for when we place a crown upon the Blessed Mother, we affirm our fervent filial devotion to Her, who is blessed amongst women,” it added.
