DSWD to begin validation, registration for 300K food stamp beneficiaries ahead of full-scale July roll-out
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is set to validate and register 300,000 families for the “Walang Gutom 2027: Food Stamp Program (FSP)” before its full implementation in July.
DSWD Undersecretary Innovations Edu Punay on May 12 said the department has recruited around 1,000 validators who will be responsible for conducting the validation and registration process for beneficiaries at the FSP sites, which are located in 21 provinces across 10 regions throughout the country.
The FSP is currently being pilot-tested in five areas across the country—Tondo, Manila; San Mariano, Isabela; Dapa, Siargao Island; Garchitorena, Camarines Sur; and Parang, Maguindanao.
The FSP is a fully digitized program launched by the DSWD in July 2023 in collaboration with the World Food Programme and the Asian Development Bank.
Under the program, each household beneficiary receives a monthly food credit of P3,000, which can be used to purchase nutrition-rich food items from DSWD-accredited partner retailers.
To ensure a balanced and healthy diet, 50 percent of food credits are allocated to carbohydrate-rich foods like rice and bread (P1,500), 30 percent to proteins like chicken or pork (P900), and 20 percent to vegetables, fruits, oil, salt, and condiments (P600).
DSWD aims to serve 1 million beneficiaries by 2027.
