Commander Paterno Belarmino Jr., head of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Northern Negros Occidental, said the fishermen left Catabla Baybay in Barangay Zone 3, Talisay City, around 4 a.m. for a fishing venture in Silay City.
However, the outrigger of the boat was destroyed by strong winds and big waves around 7:30 a.m.
Belarmino said that a passing tanker ship sighted them and reported the incident to the PCG sub-station at the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (Bredco) port here around 9:04 a.m.
A tugboat led by Auxiliary Commander Ricky Malayo of the 618th Squadron of the PCG Auxiliary responded to the distress call and rescued the fishermen who were situated four nautical miles away from the Bredco port.
Belarmino said they were floating on the sea for about two hours before they were rescued around 9:52 a.m.
All fishermen underwent medical examination before they were brought back to Talisay City.
