Teenage boy implicated in fatal roadside shooting in Cebu gives up
CEBU CITY – A 16-year-old boy surrendered to the police after he was implicated in the fatal roadside shooting in Liloan town, northern Cebu on Thursday, May 9.
With the surrender of the boy, all the suspects in the gun attack that killed a 16-year-old girl and wounded two others have been accounted for, police said.
Four suspects were earlier arrested one after the other before the boy was turned over by his parents to the police.
Police Major Eric Gingoyon, chief of the Liloan Police Station, said the boy first surrendered to officials of Barangay Calero in Liloan before he was brought to the police.
Gingoyon said the boy was pointed to by the four other suspects as the gunman in the attack.
According to the boy’s father, his son denied that he was gunman and that he only accompanied the group in Liloan.
The victims were drinking outside a convenience store when they were fired upon by motorcycle-riding assailants around 4 a.m.
Two of the five arrested suspects are twin brothers. A 9mm caliber pistol was recovered from one of the twin brothers during the arrest, police said.
Police said personal grudge was the motive of the attack.
The assailants were members of the “Bloods” gang while the victims belong to “Crips.”
The two youth gangs were involved in several atrocities in the past.
