The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) announced on Saturday, May 11, that they filed additional charges against the chairperson of Manibela transport group and two other members for their involvement in a protest rally last May 6.
Police identified the accused as Manibela chairperson Mario Valbuena, Reggie Manlapig and Alvin Reyes who were protesting against the government’s Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) phaseout program.
Valbuena, Manlapig, and Reyes will face charges for violation of Batas Pambansa Blg. (B.P) 880 under the Public Assembly Act of 1985, alarm and scandal, and resistance and disobedience upon an agent of a person in authority.
The rally, which was staged by 500 participants, caused public inconvenience, which prompted the Batasan Police Station (PS 6) to deploy personnel during their rally.
Police said transport group failed to show a permit from the city government.
The QCPD filed charges against the transport group last April 23 for the two-day transport strike in the city last April 15 and 16.
