Calapan City mayor observes waste-to-energy project in visit to San Pablo City

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – Mayor Malou F. Morillo here and this city’s key officials recently visited San Pablo City in Laguna where they observed its waste-to-energy project which the lady mayor described as a great promise for Calapan’s waste management system that offers a sustainable solution.

In a social media post, Morillo said the integration of a sustainable waste management system into this city’s overall development program presents a significant opportunity for urban centers like Calapan to address environment concerns effectively.

“The innovative approach serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that can be attained through community-driven efforts,” Morillo said as she emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation with other like-minded local government officials to build a greener and cleaner city.

The mayor said the establishment of a sustainable waste management system in Calapan not only enhances environmental sustainability but also contributes to economic growth.

“It creates new opportunities for job creation and community development, ultimately fostering a more resilient and thriving city for current and future Calapenos,” Morillo said.

Morillo was briefed about the project by San Pablo City Mayor Vicente C. Amante who pledged to build a strong collaboration between the two cities.

Morillo’s party, composed of city hall department heads and Councilor Jel Magsuci, afterwards proceeded to San Juan, Batangas where they were warmly welcomed by Mayor Ildebrando D. Salud who introduced to them the best-practices of the municipality.

The town of San Juan is known for its excellent pottery making which is one of its tourist attractions.

Morillo said her visit to areas in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon area) and other neighboring municipalities forms part of her benchmarking scheme where they study their best practices for possible integration or adoption in their governance processes.

Calapan City is designated as the regional center of the Mimaropa (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan area).
