CEBU CITY – A 14-year-old boy allegedly killed his half-brother by smashing his head with a rock before drowning the victim while they were swimming in the sea in Lapu-Lapu City on Friday morning, May 10.
The drowning of the five-year-old boy was initially reported as an accident but what really happened was discovered through the two boys’ seven-year-old brother who witnessed the incident.
The 14-year-old boy was turned over to social workers for intervention, said Police Lt. Christian Torres, public information officer of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office.
Torres said that based on the information that they gathered, the 14-year-old boy was scolded by his stepfather several times for his mischievous behavior.
The boy was even asked by his stepfather to leave their house for causing trouble at home.
Torres said it was possible that the 14-year-old boy vented his ire on his five-year-old half-brother that led to the tragic incident.
The incident happened around 9 a.m. but was only reported to the police at 1 p.m. when the victim was brought to the hospital.
Torres said the victim had injuries in the face, an indication that he was struck with a hard object.
