Parañaque City 1st District Representative Edwin Olivarez led the distribution of educational assistance to 18 scholars of Student Monetary Assistance for Recovery and Transition (SMART) program of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
Olivarez was joined by CHED Chairperson Prospero “Popoy” E. De Vera and CHED Administrative Officer I Rosario Isidro during the distribution of checks to 18 scholars.
He said the scholars are students from different schools in the city and nearby cities, who belong to the families that were affected by the pandemic and in need of financial support to continue their studies.
The congressman explained the SMART grant is a CHED program that provides one-time fixed grant of P25,000 to qualified students.
Olivarez said the program is also one of the strategies under the National Employment Recovery Strategy that increases the chance of students to graduate through scholarship despite the effects of pandemic.
