
A total of 5,512 job applicants were hired on the spot during a nationwide job fair held on Labor Day, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said on Saturday, May 11.
The applicants were among the 47,000 job seekers who participated in the job fair conducted in 97 sites across the country on May 1.
Most of them were hired for positions such as service crew, cashier, sales associate, production operator, sales clerk, production crew, online teacher, and housekeeper.
The massive job fair brought together a total of 2,839 companies that provided 235,246 job openings in the country, along with 166 companies that presented 62,431 job opportunities abroad.
On the other hand, there were 2,756 “near-hire” or applicants who were referred to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for skills training; 3,106 were referred to the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns for livelihood assistance; and 821 were referred to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for entrepreneurship development.
A total of 10,843 job seekers also used the services of the Social Security System, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and the Pag-IBIG Fund.
