2 arrested theft suspects beaten by residents in Tondo

Two theft suspects were beaten by residents after being caught stealing a cellphone from a house on Younger Street in Barangay 132, Balut, Tondo, Manila on Friday, May 10.

The suspects were identified as alias James, 19, and Jeri, 22, both residents of Gagalangin, Tondo.

Based on the police report, the incident took place at 3:40 a.m. after the suspects were seen stealing a cellphone from the house.

Members of Barangay 132 immediately responded. They were able to recover the stolen cellphone from the suspects.

The suspects were immediately brought to the MPD Smokey Mountain Precinct where residents mauled the suspects.

The residents in the area also requested from the authorities, a "genuine police visibility" and intense police patrols at night to prevent theft incidents.

Police said the arrested suspects were detained at MPD Raxabago Police Station and are facing theft charges.
