CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) reported that 2,610 barangays in Region 1 are drug-cleared as of March 2024.

PDEA-Region 1 Director Joel B. Plaza said the drug-cleared barangays are 79.89 percent of the total in the Ilocos region composed of the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan.
Plaza said 319 barangays in the region or 9.76 percent are still drug-affected and 338 barangays or 10.35 percent remain drug-free.
Pangasinan has 1,165 drug-cleared barangays, 107 drug-affected, and 92 are drug-free.
La Union has 468 drug-cleared barangays, 33 drug-affected, and 75 drug-free.
In Ilocos Sur, there are 517 drug-cleared, 114 drug-affected, and 137 drug-free barangays.
In Ilocos Norte, 460 barangays are drug-cleared, 65 drug-affected, and 34 drug-free.
Plaza said the anti-drug campaign in the Ilocos region continues without letup and that the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) is conducting validation and verification of barangays applying to be drug-cleared areas.
