Sixto Rodriguez Jr., Department of Labor and Employment-Western Visayas regional director, led the opening of the job fair here.

Simultaneous job fairs were also held in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces upon the directive of Labor and Employment Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma.

Rodriguez said that this was the first time that separate Labor Day job fairs were held in each province in the region. For many years, it was mostly just in the regional capital of Iloilo.

More than 170 participating companies participated in the job fair with the theme “Sa Bagong Pilipinas: Manggagawang Pilipino Kabalikat at Kasama sa Pag-Asenso.”

DOLE-6 also distributed assistance to workers under two key programs during Labor Day.

Rodriguez disbursed more than P220 million for its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) and P800,000 for DOLE’s Kadiwa ng Pangulo program and P500,000 for beneficiaries of its internship program.
