2 typhoons may enter PAR this month-- PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported on Wednesday, May 1, that there are two possible typhoons that could enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) for the month of May.

"Ngayong buwan ng Mayo, isa hanggang sa dalawang bagyo ang posibleng mabuo or pumasok sa ating Philippine Area of Responsibility (This May, one to two typhoons are possible to form or enter our Philippine Area of Responsibility)," PAGASA Weather Specialist Rhea Torres said in a 4 a.m. weather update.

"Based on our climatological tracks, two scenarios are possible when a typhoon forms or enters our PAR," she added.

Torres explained that in the first scenario, the typhoon may possibly approach the archipelago before recurving away from the country.

"And in the second scenario, if the entry point of the typhoon is lower or if it forms in the eastern section of Mindanao, it's possible for it to traverse parts of eastern Visayas, the Bicol Region, MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), and some parts of Calabarzon before exiting towards the West Philippine Sea (WPS) and recurving away from our archipelago again," the weather specialist said.

However, Torres underscored that the state weather bureau is currently not monitoring any low-pressure area or typhoon inside or outside the PAR.

"Until next week or the following week, we are not expecting any typhoon that could potentially affect any part of our country," she said.

 

High maximum temperatures in Luzon

 

Meanwhile, Torres explained that based on the satellite image, the weather forecast for Luzon will remain hot and humid, with intermittent brief rain showers.

Tuguegarao City may experience temperatures ranging from 27 degrees Celsius (°C) to 38 °C, 27-34°C in Laoag City, 18-26 °C in Baguio, 27-37°C in Metro Manila, 24 -35 °C in Tagaytay, and 26-33°C in Legazpi City.

No gale warning

 

In addition, Torres emphasized that there is still no gale warning hoisted by PAGASA in any part of the country.

"In terms of our seas, we still don't have any gale warning as of now," Torres said.

"The waves are still gentle to moderate, so our fellow citizens with small sea vessels can still sail freely," she added.
