ZAMBOANGA CITY – Authorities seized suspected shabu valued at P6 million from a Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL) and his cohort in a buy-bust operation outside the gate of the San Ramon Penal Colony here on Tuesday, April 9.

The suspects were identified as Kerwin Mohammad Abdila, 42, a PDL trustee (living out), and his cohort, Albadir Mala Ajijul. Seized from the suspects were a kilogram of shabu worth P6 million.
Abdila is from Barangay Upper Calarian here and was arrested by the police in Barangay Recodo, this city, in a buy-bust operation three years ago. He had been staying at the San Ramon Penal Colony as a PDL trustee for the past three years when he was arrested.
As a trustee, Abdila is among inmates tasked with farming in a vacant lot beside the penal colony.
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency officials said the suspect was arrested after weeks of surveillance.
The suspect admitted to PDEA that he had been receiving P20,000 for every drug transaction completed.
He and Ajijul were brought to the PDEA office here for further investigation. The PDEA is probing the suspects’ contacts outside the penal colony.
