GSIS will phase out UMID eCard, shift to digital ID

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) announced plans to discontinue the issuance of the Unified Multi-purpose Identification (UMID) eCard by the end of May this year.

Based a memorandum signed GSIS President and General Manager Jose Arnulfo A. Veloso dated April 2, 2024, the pension fund will be replacing physical identification cards with a digital ID integrated into the GSIS Touch mobile app.

GSIS Memorandum Circular No. 054-2024 outlined that as part of this shift, the UMID card's three-in-one functionality as an identification, ATM, and debit card will be phased out.

Effective May 31, 2024, members and pensioners enrolling in the new system will be issued ATM cards by their preferred servicing bank.

GSIS currently partners with two servicing banks, namely Landbank of the Philippines and Union Bank of the Philippines.

Under the new system, the preferred bank will issue ATM cards to members within five banking days post-enrollment.

During the enrollment process, members and pensioners will specify their preferred servicing bank branch for the retrieval of their ATM cards.

The bank-issued ATM cards enable access to benefits, loan proceeds, dividends, and pensions for retirees and survivors.

Meanwhile, GSIS members who already registered on the GSIS Touch mobile app will be seamlessly transitioned to the new system, with their GSIS Digital ID integrated into their GSIS Touch account by the deadline of May 31, 2024.

To access their GSIS digital ID, members can click on the "Member Data and GSIS Digital ID" icon in the app.
