The result may have not been in favor of the world No. 39 Filipinas, but Beard’s goal in her 11th international appearance for the country is what mattered most as it was also the squad’s first goal of the year.

After conceding two goals in the first half, the Philippines continued to trail the home side until the 74th minute that saw Beard slot her free kick past South Korea’s keeper to the left side of the net. 

The Philippines went goalless in its second stint in the Pinatar Cup in Spain with no consolation to even take home. 

Beard’s goal also marked the Filipinas’ second goal over the Koreans in their last five encounters with the first coming from Sarina Bolden during the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China last year. 

The Mark Torcaso-coached Philippines flew to South Korean last week for a pair of FIFA-sanctioned friendlies with the first ending in a 3-0 heartbreak last April 5. 

There, the Filipinas kept a clean sheet for 73 minutes much to the frustration of the Koreans following a brilliant showing from Olivia McDaniel before a defensive lapse took place. 

Torcaso previously shared that the team is probably going to play more friendlies this year as they have no big tournaments lined up.

Next year, though, the Philippines will be gearing up to defend its AFF Women's Championship and compete in the 2025 Southeast Asian Games.
