Duterte highlights significance of setting an 'entrepreneurial mindset' among Filipino students
Vice President and Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sara Duterte underscored the importance of introducing and teaching entrepreneurship among students on Monday, April 8.

“Kailangan natin simulan ang entrepreneurial mindset sa mga kabataan natin at matuto silang mag-negosyo at makakadagdag ito sa kanilang kita (We need to start instilling an entrepreneurial mindset in our youth and teach them how to do business, which can add to their income),” Duterte said during an interview on the sidelines of the Youthpreneur (Mentoring Future Entrepreneurs) event at Rizal High School in Pasig City.
“[Kung] meron silang trabaho at negosyo, pwede na silang maging negosyante (If they have a job and a business, they can transition directly into being entrepreneurs),” she added.
Youthpreneur is a program in partnership between DepEd and Go Negosyo, designed to promote an entrepreneurial mindset, especially among the youth, and build skills that complement the entrepreneurial aspect of the Senior High School (SHS) curriculum.
During the event, Duterte and Go Negosyo founder Joey Concepcion encouraged SHS, the country’s largest secondary school, to consider a career in entrepreneurship.
The event gathered nearly a thousand senior high school students who stayed for the half-day learning session with some of the country’s top businessmen to learn about the basics of entrepreneurship.
Youthpreneur is one of the programs covered by a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed between Go Negosyo and DepEd in November 2023.
Aside from promoting an entrepreneurial mindset among Filipino youth, the program also aims to build skills through mentorship and increase financial literacy.
Other programs covered by the MOA aim to raise agricultural awareness, cultivate entrepreneurial skills in agriculture, and facilitate industry connections for mentorship.
Since its launch, Youthpreneur has been held in Quezon City, Manila, and Baguio City to thousands of enthusiastic youths eager to learn about entrepreneurship.
Duterte said they also plan to bring the program Bataan as well as in Visayas and Mindanao.
