Terrafirma head coach Johnedel Cardel is optimistic that his current Dyip roster could finally get over the hump and pick up five or more wins in the 2024 Philippine Cup.

Cardel said his current team, which pulled off a rare victory over Ginebra, 91-85, on Sunday, April 7, could be considered as the best team he has ever handled.
“I think so, (best Terrafirma team),” said Cardel.
“Ito yung pinakakumpleto, malaki with Isaac (Go) and (Kemark) Carino, of course, our veteran Aldrech Ramos, Javi (Gomez de Liano), Andrei Cahiliig. Big addition si (Stephen) Holt. He’s a leader. He can score and Juami (Tiongson) remains consistent,” he added.
The Dyip improved to a 4-3 record in the standings and they are in good position to finally achieve their goal of advancing to the quarterfinals this conference with four more games left in their assignment.
Cardel said his current lineup could achieve something special for the franchise and he could see it just by observing his charges in practice.
“The way they show even in practice every day, they compete. Nakikita ko this is a different team and this is all-Filipino so we have a good chance in getting that na gusto namin makapunta sa quarterfinals."
Cardel, however, was quick to remind the players to not get too carried away by the wins as they still have a long way to go to reach their goal. The magic number for a team to assure itself a spot in the playoffs is six wins, which means the Dyip still need two more victories.
“I told them na we really need, kailangan naming mag-work hard every day sa practice, extra work, extra shooting everyone. Juami, Javi and Holt everyone should be involved,” Cardel stressed.
“Mahirap kapag silang dalawa, tatlo lang kailangan lahat sila not only sa points lang naman but sa defense and getting small stops yun yung makakatulong para mabuhat ang team,” he added.
That’s what exactly transpired in the game against Ginebra with Tiongson and Gomez de Liano leading the way with 25 and 22 points, while Holt and Carino chipped in 12 apiece.
The Dyip need that balanced attack if they wish to pull off another upset against the still undefeated San Miguel on Wednesday, April 10.
