College student killed in motorcycle crash

BACOLOD CITY â€“ A college student was killed and his companion was injured in a motorcycle accident in Barangay Alangilan here on Sunday, April 7.

Police identified the fatality as 20-year-old John Mel Tibo-oc of Barangay Alangilan and the injured as Jan Frederick Sumadia, 21, of Murcia, Negros Occidental.

Police Capt. Portia Nillosan, head of Police Station 5, said Sumadia lost control of their motorcycle on a curved part of the road and overshot into a gutter.

The victims were allegedly speeding on their way home when they figured in the accident.

Nillosan said they attended a fiesta and were reported to be under the influence of liquor.

The victims suffered head injuries as both were not wearing helmets, she added.

Tibo-oc passed away a few hours later in a private hospital here. Sumadia is now in stable condition, according to Nillosan.
