MPD hunts down SUV driver who ran over man in Tondo
Police are still hunting down the unidentified driver of the sports utility vehicle (SUV) that ran over a man in Tondo, Manila, the Manila Police District (MPD) said on Sunday, April 7.
In a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, a Mitsubishi Montero was seen parked along Yuseco Street corner Katamanan Street in Tondo at 4:20 p.m. on Friday, April 5.
The victim, Arnelio Sombilon, 56, suddenly appeared at the scene. He seated on the pathway in front of the parked SUV.
Meanwhile, the SUV started to move forward.
The vehicle's front-right portion ran over the lower body of the victim.
Witnesses onboarded the victim to a tricycle and rushed him to Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival at 6:20 pm.
Authorities said the SUV sped off when the tricycle left so they thought that SUV driver would accompany the victim to the hospital.
However, witnesses said the suspect was not seen in the hospital.
With the help of the CCTV footage, police were able to get the license plate of the suspect.
The family of the victim called on the driver of the Mitsubishi Montero with plate number CDI 9914 to surrender to the authorities.
MPD and Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit (MDTEU) said they will continue to conduct follow-up operations to locate the suspect.
They said the suspect will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.
