House Speaker Martin Romualdez has acknowledged the negative impact that traffic in the metropolis has brought to the Philippine economy.
Despite this, he argued that the economy is indeed on the way up, and that Filipinos should "enjoy" such progress.
In a statement Friday, April 5, the Leyte 1st district representative shared President Marcos’ concern on the traffic situation in Metro Manila and other urban areas.
“Traffic is a big challenge to our economic growth. It is eating up a lot of precious man-hours, fuel and money, which could be put to productive use. We have to expand our infrastructure," Romualdez said.
"Maybe, we should build skyways along EDSA and other major roads with private financial support and participation,” reckoned the House head honcho.

“As to the number of vehicles using our roads, the government can do little. It is a sign of economic progress, which our people should enjoy,” he said.
Recently signed was the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of new Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Law.
Bulacan 6th district Rep. Salvador Pleyto Sr., a vice chairman of the House Committee in Public Works and Highways, said the approval of the IRR will bolster the Build Better More program of President Marcos.
At least 45 big-ticket projects will be financed through PPPs, Pleyto said.
