BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways is constructing an access road that will fast-track travel to the Managong Falls, a tourist spot in Sibagat, Agusan del Sur.
The P50-million project under the Tourism Road Infrastructure Project of the Department of Tourism and DPWH starts on April 15.
Stakeholders of the tourism industry in the Caraga region are positive that the access road will pave the way for more opportunities for local communities, especially the highland people, who are protecting the Managong Falls for several decades now.
“When this all-weather road is completed, our tourist arrivals in Caraga region will surely increase,”
DOT-13 Regional Director Ivonnie B. Dumadag said.
“Managong Falls is one of the region’s main tourist destinations and attraction and this newly funded road project will not only spur our tourism destinations in the region but also give economic boost to our local communities.”
Last year, Managong Falls logged close to 2,000 same-day tourist arrivals, an indication of the thriving tourism industry in the area, Dumadag added.
DPWH-13 Regional Director Engr. Pol M. delos Santos assured that the project will start and completed on time.
“Among the economic backbone in our economy is good infrastructure, especially on road development, that is why we are enhancing our ground works to hit our target timeline in all government projects, especially those roads to economic prosperity,” Delos Santos said.
