Tricycle, bus collide; cum laude student, 2 others killed

BINALONAN, Pangasinan – A graduating cum laude student and two others were killed in a collision between a motorcycle and passenger bus in Barangay Cili here on Thursday morning, April 4.

Police identified victims as Melchor, 66, tricycle driver, and his passengers Hanna Mae Basanes Mateo, 23, a graduating cum laude Education student at the University of Eastern Pangasinan, and Dennis Malapit Dasalla, 16, Grade 10 student, all residents of Barangay Santa Catalina here.

Two tricycle passengers were injured – Nicole Basanes Mateo and Olivia Kate Siador Manaois, both Grade 10 students.

Police said the tricycle encroached on the lane and collided with the Kalinga province-bound bus driven by Louie Lagoy Dugayon, 34.

The fatalities sustained serious injuries and were taken to the Urdaneta District Hospital where they were declared dead.

Police said the victims were on their way to school when the accident happened.
