PRO-7 assures presence of cops on the streets amid extreme heat
CEBU CITY – The Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7) assured the presence of policemen on the ground despite the extreme heat.
Police Lt. Col. Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson of PRO-7 chief Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, said extreme heat is not a reason to pull policemen out of the streets.

“We expect that our police officers can withstand the extreme heat and they should prepare themselves but of course, we would like to remind them that we are now experiencing an unusual hot weather condition,” Pelare said.
Keeping the policemen on the streets is crucial in deterring crimes, said Pelare.
Dealing with unfavorable weather is something that policemen were trained for, said Pelare.
Police assigned outdoors were still reminded to look after their safety as health authorities have warned that temperatures over 33 degrees Celsius may lead to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
“The police will still be on the ground. We will still do our work as usual only that we remind our police officers to hydrate, to drink water, and of course to make sure they are physically fit,” added Pelare.
Pelare added that the Regional Medical Dental Unit is also available 24 hours and seven days a week to attend to policemen who need medical help.
He said consideration will be given to those who are deemed unfit to be deployed on the streets due to extreme heat.
“What I would like to assure the public is that there will be no decrease in the number of deployed personnel. We will have the same highly intensified police visibility. That is one of the instructions of our Chief PNP to make sure that the people, our police officers are on the ground,” said Pelare.
Pelare said Aberin has been advocating for the police to be visible and ready to respond to any emergency.
