NPA rebel killed in Negros Occidental gun battle

BACOLOD CITY – A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed in an encounter with authorities in Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental on Thursday, April 4.

The 2nd Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Force Company (Nocpmfc) and the 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) were responding to reports on the presence of communist rebels in the area when the firefight broke out around 5:35 a.m.

Lt. Col. J-jay Javines, spokesperson of the Army 3rd Infantry Division (ID), said troops engaged at least five remnants of the dismantled Central Negros (CN) 1.

Soldiers reengaged communist rebels hours later at around 9:18 a.m. and recovered two guns.

But the NPA said no encounter occurred in the area.
