Abra hopes to weave magic in initial MPBL campaign

The 6th Season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) welcomes a new team into its fold as the Abra Weavers officially join the league. This season will feature 30 teams, with three expansion teams making their debut. The other newcomers are the Pangasinan Heatwaves and the Tarlac United Force.

Coming from a province with a rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, the Abra Weavers are set to bring their unique flair to the MPBL. The Weavers will be led by team owner La Paz, Abra Mayor Joseph Bernos and head coach Jonathan Banal.

"We are thrilled to be a part of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League," said Bernos. "Our team is ready to showcase the talent and passion for basketball that Abra is known for. We look forward to competing against the best teams in the league and making our fans proud."

Guard Mac Tallo signed for the Weavers after his release from the  Converge FiberXers. Tallo is joining the Weavers who boasts veteran big men Jeepy Faundo and Prince Caperal.

The addition of the Abra Weavers will add further excitement and competition to the country's top regional league, according to MPBL Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes.
For his part, Banal said the Weavers will be ready for the challenge.

"I think we need to play defense because offense will come. We have a lot of good scorers. Of course, we cannot win the game if without rebounding and playing with defense. We just need to focus on that. We just need to prepare against Balti ( Pampanga Giant Lanterns), of course he's the MVP of the League, so, it will become a big challenge for them. And, of course, secret na rin kung paano namin babantayan si Balti. Abangan na lang nila kung ano yung mangyayari but for sure we'll compete for the best, the very best," said Banal.

The Abra Weavers will join the MPBL's 6th Season, tipping off on April 6 at the Calasiao Sports Complex in Pangasinan.
