Phivolcs said the SO2 emission of 2, 707 tons per day was the second highest emission being recorded in the country since 2024 began, following the 3,098 tons per day on January 19.

Phivolcs said Kanlaon was still under Alert Level 1, which means that it was still at low-level of unrest.

“The public and local government units are strongly advised to be vigilant and refrain entry into the four (4) kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) due to increased chances of sudden and hazardous phreatic eruptions occurring without warning,” it said.

“Civil aviation authorities must also advise pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as ejecta from any sudden phreatic eruption can be hazardous to aircraft,” it added.
