Minimum wage hike for 'kasambahay' approved in Central Visayas -- DOLE

Starting May 11, the monthly wage rate of household workers in Region VII will increase following the approval of the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPB), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said.

The increase was based on the Wage Order No. ROVII-DW-04  of the RTWPB in Central Visayasissued on April 18, 2024.

It said a total of 107,931 domestic workers in Region VII are expected to benefit from the wage hike.

With the latest wage order, the new monthly minimum wage rates for domestic workers in the region, approximately 14 percent, or 15,099 of whom are on live-in arrangements, will now range from P6,000 from the previous P5,500 for those in chartered and highly urbanized cities, and to P5,000 from the previous P4,500 for municipalities in the region.

The adjustment would bring the monthly minimum wage in the region to P500.

The DOLE said the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) affirmed the salary increase, which shall take effect starting next month.

"The increase considered the results of the survey conducted and public hearings, as well as the needs of domestic workers and their families, the employer’s capacity to pay, and the existing socio-economic conditions in the region," the DOLE said.

Central Visayas wage board, composed of representatives from the government, management, and labor sectors, conducted regional public consultations on Apr. 7 in Minglanilla, Cebu.

"RTWPB VII shall undertake information campaigns to ensure compliance with the new wage order," the DOLE said.

The last wage order for domestic workers in Central Visayas was implemented in June 2022, it said.
