Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan led the distribution of financial assistance to over 1,000 families who were displaced by recent fires in the city.

A total of 1,190 beneficiaries received P10,000 each.

The families were displaced by 18 recent fire incidents that gutted houses in different barangays in the city's six districts.  

The most number of families left homeless were from Barangay 20 of District 1, which was hit by fire on April 10 in.

More or less 676 families were affected in the incident.

During the distribution, the mayor was accompanied by Manila Vice Mayor John Marvin "Yul Servo" Nieto and Manila Department of Social Welfare head Re Fugoso.

It is the city government's way of showing the support to the affected residents and help them start anew, Lacuna-Pangan said.

The local chief executive also called on the recipients to learn from the tragedies they experienced, noting that Parola were hit twice in the same area.

She said that instead of taking videos and pictures, the residents must immediately report the fire to the right authorities to prevent it from spreading to adjacent houses.

 "During fire and times of other emergencies, every second counts. Kaya 'wag po nating aksayahin sa pagkuha ng mga litrato at video para lang mai-post sa social media (During fire and times of other emergencies, every second counts. So let's not waste it by taking photos and videos just to post on social media)," she stressed.
