CICC urges Congress to accelerate passage of 'deepfake' regulation bill

The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) on Tuesday, April 30, asked Congress to move quickly to pass legislation pertaining to artificial intelligence (AI), particularly the “deepfake.”

"Ang una kong hihingin sa kongreso bilisan niyo mag pasa ng batas, regulating deepfake (the first thing I'll ask Congress is to expedite the passage of laws regulating deepfake)," CICC Executive Director Alexander K. Ramos said on the sidelines of “Satpack” media launch.

"Because no matter what we do, if those slip through, they're not covered by the law. It's difficult; we're not the only country—it's a worldwide problem," he added in a mix of English and Filipino.

Ramos said there are three or four bills related to regulating AI that remained pending in the Congress.

"Technology evolves rapidly, so our congress should also have a way to quickly pass laws to keep up with the technology trends because that's important," he explained.

Meanwhile, Ramos asked the public "to be very observant” as “we need a bit of intelligence in watching and reading these materials we see online.”

"Not everything (in social media) is true," he added.

Ramos was pertaining to the fake audio clip of President Marcos directing the military to act against a particular country.
