3 men arrested for killing native dog in Iligan City


ILIGAN CITY – Three men were arrested for allegedly killing a native dog or Asong Pinoy (Aspin) in this city on Monday, April 29.

Police said the suspects were a 52-year-old sidewalk vendor, 54-year-old janitor, and a 42-year-old jobless man.

The suspects were caught on video tying and dragging the dog on a motorcycle which went vital and received various reactions from netizens.

The video also showed the suspects smiling while dragging the dog’s remains on Andres Bonifacio Ave. in Barangay San Miguel at 1:45 p.m.

The incident was reported at 5:30 p.m. by a 55-year-old concerned citizen to police who accosted the suspects while selling street food in front of a hospital. The dog’s remains were also recovered. 

Police said the suspects intentionally killed the dog.

The suspects and the dog’s remains were taken to the Iligan City Police Station 1 (ICPS1) for documentation and proper disposition. 

The suspects face a case for violation of Republic Act 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998.
