School authorities in Pasay may suspend F2F classes due to extreme heat
Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano authorized the heads of public and private schools in the city to decide on the suspension of face-to-face classes (F2F) due to extreme heat.
Rubiano issued Executive Order (EO) No. 42 on April 2 on the suspension of F2F classes on April 3, both in public and private schools, due to the 42 degrees Celsius heat index being experienced in the city.
The mayor encouraged all public and private schools to shift their learning activities online, modular, or any applicable alternative learning modality in anticipation of the dire effects of the scorching heat due to the El Niño phenomenon.

According to Rubiano’s Chief of Staff, Peter Pardo, the city government came out with an advisory on the same day, April 3, on the resumption of F2F classes in the city on April 4.
Pardo said school authorities may decide whether to resume the F2F classes based on the EO issued by the mayor.
He said the EO mentioned that all schools in the city may shift their learning activities to online, modular or any applicable learning modality once the heat index reaches to 42 degrees Celsius or higher.
Pardo said the EO also seeks to address the anticipated dire effects of the high temperature forecast on the health and learning performance of students and avoid any disruption to the academic calendar.
Rubiano advised the public to avoid outdoor activities, stay in shaded areas, and drink plenty of water to keep hydrated to avoid heatstroke.
