QC gov’t releases guidelines for school classes during hot weather
By Hannah Nicol
The Quezon City local government released guidelines on Wednesday, April 3, for the shifting of school classes to synchronous and asynchronous during hot weather.

The guidelines were issued in response to the rise in temperature and heightened heat index projected by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) this summer season.
The Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) released the heat index advisory based on data from the iRiseUP System.
The 5:30 p.m. announcement will be the basis for determining whether classes in public schools will be face-to-face or synchronous/asynchronous the following day.
The city government said that if the heat index reaches 40 degrees Celsius, alternative delivery modes of learning (synchronous or asynchronous) will be automatically implemented.
Based on the city government’s Memorandum Circular No. 10-A series of 2022, in accordance with Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 037 series of 2022, private schools are given the authority to decide on the attendance of students, but are encouraged to follow national or local announcements.
