BACOLOD CITY – This province has recorded the first case of pertussis or whooping cough.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said that the patient was a two-month-old baby girl whose condition was confirmed by a confirmatory test result from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Muntinlupa City.
Lacson said the patient was admitted to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) here but was later discharged after she recovered.
“We’re fortunate that the baby is well now,” the governor added.
Lacson said that six specimens of suspected pertussis cases were also sent to the RITM for laboratory examination.
He said that it takes a while before receiving the results, but he assured that the patients are being taken care of.
Lacson said that the public should be more conscious because this is not an ordinary cough.
He urged the public to be vigilant and wear face masks indoors and if there is a huge crowd.
“It is alarming in the sense that this is not happening before, and all of a sudden we’re experiencing this,” he said.
He hopes that recent suspected cases in the province will yield negative results.
