President Marcos told government agencies to do away from a piecemeal approach in resolving the country's lingering traffic woes and ordered them to come up with a comprehensive proposal.
Marcos made the directive to agencies dealing with the country's traffic problems during the 16th full Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, April 3.
"So, we had a very long discussion on the traffic issue and the President gave instruction to everyone to submit their recommendations, how their respective offices will adjust and configure their work environment," National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Arsenio Balisacan said in a Palace briefing on Thursday, April 4.
"But what the President really wants is a comprehensive, holistic approach to solving the traffic problem – hindi iyong (not the) piecemeal approach ‘no as has been the case all these years ‘no," Balisacan added.
The NEDA chief said the President stressed that in planning to improve the transport system, the government should be looking at intermodal transport system and see how they operate efficiently as a whole.
He added that building a better transport system must be "seen in the context of all the other transport system including bike lanes, motorcycle lanes like that and as well as feeder roads and including the location of industries, residences and so on."
"So the whole system, it cannot be just seen as a… on a piecemeal basis. Kasi kung may (Because if there is a) chokepoint in one, it affects the whole system that’s why we really look at it as a system – and that’s the direction of the President," Balisacan said.
