Hold on to your briefs and boxers, gentlemen.
House Deputy Majority Leader Iloilo 1st district Rep. Janette Garin's recent viral advice to women to shed their underwear at home in order to beat the summer heat isn't applicable to men.
Garin, a one-time Department of Health (DOH) secretary, made this clarification after some netizens wondered if men should also ditch their undies when temperatures get too high.
The short answer is no.
"Iba yung anatomical aspect ng lalaki (A man's anatomical aspect is different). They are not prone to fungal infection in their intimate areas," the lady solon said Thursday, April 4.
During a press conference Monday when the summer heat index was grabbing headlines, Garin advised Filipino women not to use underwear at home so they may avoid contracting jock itch.

She noted how things can get warm and moist down there, and thus create the perfect environment for fungi to develop.
But that's not to say that men should have zero worries this summer. In fact, Garin says they should be wary of more serious medical conditions.
"Men are more prone to heat stroke and cardiac illnesses especially during extreme heat," the former health chief said.
"Hence the need to drink 8 to 10 glasses of water per day," she added.
