A Makabayan solon has hailed the Department of Justice (DOJ) decision to grant the Petition for Review in the case against controversial Kingdom of Jesus Christ Church (KOJC) leader, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.
According to ACT Teachers Party-List Rep. France Castro, this move from the DOJ "paved the way for the arrest warrant" issued on March 14 by Judge Dante Baguio of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 12 in the Davao region against Quiboloy and five of his associates.
Castro said these five associates were identified as Jackielyn Roy, Cresente Canada, Paulene Canada, Ingrid Canada, and Sylvia Cemañes.
"It is good that the original Joint Resolution dated 29 June 2020 by the Office of the City Prosecutor of Davao City, which dismissed the complaints for rape, qualified human trafficking, and child abuse, has been overturned by the DOJ.
"Finally, the department is seeing the alleged crimes of Quiboloy in a new light, and we hope that it would act swiftly to deliver justice to Quiboloy's victims," said the teacher-solon.
"It is also good that the Petition for Review concerning the case against Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy and others has been granted, marking a significant development in the pursuit of justice for the victims. The Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO) was issued against Pastor Quiboloy on 27 February 2024, underscores the gravity of the allegations against him," noted Castro.
The House deputy minority leader expressed optimism for the progress in the case and emphasized the necessity of upholding justice and accountability for all individuals involved.
"We stand in solidarity with the victims and advocates seeking justice in this case. It is imperative that the legal process moves swiftly to ensure that those responsible for heinous crimes are held accountable and that justice is served," Castro concluded.
