ILOILO CITY – In-person classes here were cancelled for the third straight day on Wednesday, April 3, due to extreme heat.
Mayor Jerry Treñas has issued Executive Order No. 047-B extending the cancellation of classes to colleges and universities as the heat index continued to register 40 degrees Celsius and higher.

The Central Philippine University (CPU), West Visayas State University (WVSU), and Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U) suspended classes on Wednesday.
However, Treñas said that school administrators, particularly private educational institutions with proper air-conditioning, can continue face-to-face classes. Despite this option, some institutions conducted online classes.
Classes in Iloilo province were not suspended.
Gov. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. said there is no province-wide cancellation of classes and let the mayors of the 42 towns and component city of Passi to decide on the matter as the heat index differs in each locality.
The provincial government continues to coordinate with the Department of Education (DepEd)-Iloilo and the local government units on the conduct of classes.
