A magnitude 5.1 earthquake jolted Surigao del Sur at 12:51 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs located the earthquake’s epicenter 65 kilometers (km) northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
It said the tremor was an aftershock of the 7.4-magnitude Surigao del Sur earthquake on Dec. 2, 2023.
Wednesday’s tremor, which occurred at a shallow depth of one kilometer, was tectonic or caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
Phivolcs said it was “moderately strong” at Intensity IV in the City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur.
Its instruments also recorded Intensity II (slightly felt) in the City of Bislig.
