DAGUPAN CITY – One-hundred thirteen families composed of 411 individuals from Pilar, Abra and Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur were evacuated following a series of encounters between soldiers and the New People’s Army on Tuesday, April 2.
THE government has provided assistance to families from Abra and Ilocos Sur displaced by a series of encounters between soldiers government and communist rebels.
The Office of Civil Defense said 201 individuals (58 families) in Barangay Nagcanasan and 118 individuals (34 families) in Barangay Gapang, both in Pilar, and 83 individuals (21 families) from Sitio Paring in Barangay Babalasioan, Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur were displaced.
They were provided with basic hygiene kits, food, and water by the Philippine Red Cross-Abra.
Soldiers are conducting clearing operations in the encounter sites before allowing residents to return to their homes.
