Marcos confident AFP can ensure peaceful Bangsamoro polls in 2025
President Marcos is confident that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) can ensure a safe and honest conduct of elections in the Bangsamoro Region next year.

Marcos expressed this as he highlighted during his "talk to the troops" at the 6th infantry division (ID) in Camp Siongco, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, that the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) elections in May 2025 is poised as a "big milestone" in the region's journey towards "meaningful autonomy."
"The upcoming first BARMM parliamentary elections in May 2025 will represent a big milestone in our journey towards a meaningful autonomy and a peaceful Bangsamoro. I am sure that you have the ability, I know, you have the ability to secure a safe and honest conduct of these elections as this will lay the groundwork for a Bagong Pilipinas," Marcos said on Monday, April 29.
"I am confident that the entire Filipino nation can count on you for this very important undertaking," he stressed.
The President made the statement as he underscored that the troops' role has become "even more crucial as we move forward to the future."
He told them that even as he asked them to be peacemakers, they must continue with their "core competency as war fighters because the fight is not yet over."
"I am happy though to say, that we, the enemy is not taking the fight to us anymore. We are taking the fight to them and that is a sure signs of success," he told them.
During his visit at the at Camp Siongco, where he led the awarding of Distinguished Conduct Star (DCS) to two soldiers and Gold Cross Medal (GCM) to three soldiers for their heroism in an encounter with the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters-Karialan Faction (BIFF-KF), Marcos also expressed hopes the soldiers will be inspired by the awards and recognition they received to fulfill their calling and perform their mandates more courageously and wholeheartedly.
“As your President, I join the rest of the Philippines in giving you my snappiest salute and express my deepest gratitude to you for your sacrifice. You can [be] rest assured that, while you defend our nation against all threats, this government will continue to nurture your welfare and that of course, of your families,” he said.
“You are an inspiration to us all, it is through your valiant efforts that we will build a strong Mindanao and a more prosperous Bagong Pilipinas for the present and for future generations,” he added.
Marcos also visited wounded-in-action soldiers at the Camp Siongco Station Hospital and gave them DCS awards and handed over financial assistance to each of them.
