No stranded passengers were reported in Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela and Quezon Cities during the first day of transport strike staged by transport group Pagkakaisa ng Mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (Piston) on Monday, April 29, the local government units said.
According to the LGUs, no stranded passengers have been reported since morning.
“Wala, pero naka-standby pa rin mga sasakyan ng local government unit (LGU) in case needed (None, but LGU vehicles are still on standby in case they are needed),” the Caloocan City Public Information Office (PIO) said when asked about the situation.
“Wala po, normal po (ito) hindi po affected po pero kahit na naka-standby pa rin po 'yung mga libreng sakay ng LGU (None, it is normal and not affected, but the LGU's free rides are still on standby),” Malabon City PIO said.
“Wala naman kaming nare-receive na report na may stranded (We haven't received any reports of stranded individuals),” Navotas City PIO said.
“As of this time and date, no stranded passengers or commuters within the city,” Valenzuela City Police Station (VCPS) chief Col. Salvador Destura said.
The Valenzuela City PIO added that they pre-positioned the “Libreng Sakay” vehicles in four areas in Valenzuela Gateway Complex (VGC), city’s ALERT center, and two vehicles for Polo-Malanday route and Polo-Monumento route.
“As of this time, wala pong reported na stranded. May mga libreng sakay po in case meron mga stranded (As of this time, there are no reported stranded individuals. Free rides are available in case there are stranded individuals),” according to Quezon City Police District (QCPD) public information office.
It added that 96 Libreng Sakay vehicles were continuously running in eight different routes.
The local government of Quezon City was prepared to assist the passengers who were affected by the suspension of public transport.
The QCity Bus continued its operation while additional buses were ready to be deployed to ferry stranded commuters.
In addition, the city government said that their service vehicles, together with QCPD, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, Armed Forces of the Philippines and barangay vehicles, are on standby in case residents need assistance.
Moreover, personnel from the Traffic and Transport Management Department have been deployed to major roads to assist motorists and passengers who may be affected by the strike.
The city government reminded the public, especially the affected commuters, to seek help through the QC Helpline 122.
