Ako Bicol Party-List Rep. Elizaldy Co commended House Speaker Martin Romualdez and President Marcos for their “unshakeable” commitment to the operational readiness of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) through the launch of new infrastructure projects.

“They ensure that our armed forces are equipped with the facilities necessary to meet modern military demands and reflect our deep appreciation for the hard work and sacrifices you make every day,” Co said in a speech.

Co, chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, issued this statement as the guest of honor at the groundbreaking ceremony for 19 pivotal infrastructure projects within the 9th Infantry Division of the AFP.

The Bicol lawmaker says the ceremony serves as a testament to the fruitful collaboration between the House of Representatives and the military.

“We gather not only to celebrate the groundbreaking of new infrastructure but to honor the indomitable spirit of our soldiers, who serve with relentless dedication and valor,” he said.

Co underscored the importance of new initiatives for the military, which sought to boost national security and promote the welfare of the armed forces.

The projects—which amounted to nearly P350 million in investments—include enhancements on the military barracks, the expansion of the 9th Signal Battalion Building, and the development of a comprehensive circumferential road network aimed at boosting training capabilities.

Co noted the AFP’s unwavering dedication forms the “foundation upon which our country’s security and harmony stands”.

He says the soon-to-rise infrastructures will help members of the military to remain steadfast in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and fostering peace.

“Sa sandaling ito, sa ngalan ng Ako Bicol at ng bawat isang Bicolano, gusto kong ipahayag ang aming taos-pusong pasasalamat sa bawat isa sa inyo—mga matatapang na kalalakihan at kababaihan ng Armed Forces of the Philippines. Malaki ang ambag ng inyong katapangan para sa pag-unlad ng ating mahal na Bicol,” Co said.

(At this point, on behalf of Ako Bicol and of every Bicolano, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and everyone of you—our fearless men and women of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Your courage has vastly contributed to the progress of our beloved Bicol)

The 9th Infantry Division of the AFP is a primary infantry unit assigned to combat insurgency in the Bicol region. Its headquarters is in Camp Elias Angeles, Pili, Camarines Sur.
