“No learner should ever fear for their safety while pursuing education, whether at home or in school,” DepEd said in a statement posted on its Facebook page on Saturday, April 27.

DepEd strongly condemned the “tragic and senseless” killing of a 14-year-old student in Talisay City, Cebu, and urged authorities to investigate the crime.

Citing reports, the student was “answering her learning modules at home” when the incident happened.

Related to this, DepEd called on the authorities to “swiftly and thoroughly investigate this heinous crime and bring the perpetrator to justice.”

As DepEd extended its condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and classmates of the victim, the agency urged the local authorities and the community to “come together in solidarity” against violence and to ensure the safety of all learners.

On April 19, DepEd also condemned the killing of a Grade 8 learner from Agoncillo, Batangas.
