The intense heat is breaking records.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday afternoon, April 27 logged the highest air temperature ever recorded in Metro Manila.
Based on PAGASA’s monitoring, a temperature of 38.8 Celsius (℃) was recorded at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Station in Pasay City at 2:53 p.m. on April 27.
This is equivalent to a heat index or “feels like” of 45℃.
PAGASA’s data showed that the new record surpassed the previous record of 38.6℃ logged on May 17, 1915, in Port Area, Manila.
PAGASA warned that warmer days will continue until May when the hottest days are typically recorded.
The country is experiencing intense heat due to the warm and dry season, exacerbated by the “lingering” El Niño.
