DMW: No Filipino hurt in two quakes that hit Taiwan


There was no Filipino who was hurt following two succesive earthquakes that hit Taiwan on Saturday morning, April 27, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.

In a statement the DMW said Migrant Workers Offices (MWOs) in Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung were immediately contacted to check on the status of the overseas Filipino workers in their respective areas.

“They are on alert and monitoring the situation ready to assist any OFWs who may have been injured or affected by the earthquake,” the statement read.

The first quake, with a 6.1 magnitude, was felt at 2:21 a.m. while the second one happened at 2:49 a.m., with a magnitude of 5.8.

The DMW said it is now coordinating with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) officers and personnel to ascertain the safety and status of OFWs.

Coordination is also being made with Filipino communities and leaders, local authorities, and employers.
