From sketching dresses to writing comedy jokes, Filipino fashion designer Robin Tomas takes on a new life adventure.

It takes courage and talent to follow in the footsteps of a famous mother, Tessie Tomas. Robin not only inherited his mother's love for entertaining audiences, but he also pursued standup comedy, a field that requires wit and charisma.

As he takes the stage, Robin carries with him his mother's legacy as the Queen of Daytime TV on Philippine television. He considers doing stand-up comedy a way of honoring her mother's legacy.

"I was in the womb of a comedian. I've absorbed everything. I grew up with a comic, and we would spar naturally with humor," Robin said during his interview with ABS-CBN news.

Discovering his new passion, Robin is now doing open mics at comedy bars in New York.

During the interview, he also shared that he attended the Harvard of Comedy of Clubs, which is the Comedy Cellar Club, where he took stand-up comedy classes.

"For fashion, I went to Parsons, which is also one of the best schools in the country. For comedy, I decided, why not go for the best and get the really good training?" he added.

Comedy Cellar is known for producing some of the best comedians, such as Kevin Hart, Dave Chapelle, and Ali Wong.

Appearing in different comedy clubs, Robin is also supported by the Fil-Am community in New York City. Paz Herrero, the daughter of the late Filipino comedian Subas Herrero, even watched one of his open mic performances.

Although she is far from her son, Tessie congratulates Robin on his new journey through stand-up comedy.

"Robin, I wish you all the best in the world, as you foray into the difficult, challenging world of stand-up comedy. Pero sa totoo lang, medyo nabigla si mommy kasi hindi ko akalain na seseryosohin mo, nagtake up ka pala ng comedy writing course. Baka naman mas sumikat ka pa kay mommy, ako na lang ang front act mo," Tessie said.

(Robin, I wish you all the best as you foray into the difficult, challenging world of stand-up comedy. But Mommy was shocked because I didn't think you would take it seriously. You took up a comedy writing course. Maybe you'll be more famous than mommy. I'll be your front act.)

Tessie, 73, is based in London and married Dr. Roger Pullin. Currently, Tessie is in the Philippines, shooting a movie.

Robin mentioned that if he were given a chance to do a dream gig in the future, that would be doing a Netflix comedy special.

"Big dream? Syempre Netflix special bakit hindi diba? Or more. I wanna be able to perform in a big crowd," he said.

(Big dream? Of course, it's a Netflix special, so why not? Or more. I want to be able to perform in a big crowd)

Before heading to comedy, Robin discovered his love for Fashion in 2002. Robin took classes at the Parsons School of Design in New York City, where he took up fashion.

Since then, Robin worked in the fashion industry. In 2009, Robin debuted his fashion label in the Philippines, while in 2010, he was also selected as one of the finalists in the Supima Design Competition 2010.
